Christmas in July for Luna and Bethel!

Image
Tradition!
Luna and Bethel, the toy fox terriers, tell you people now that if there is one thing that Luna and Bethel love, it's The Christmas!  Luna and Bethel love the packages and opening the packages and chewing up the paper from the packages and pooping the paper from the packages!  With that in mind, Luna and Bethel celebrate The Christmas whenever Luna and Bethel get the chance (and Luna and Bethel could use a little Christmas right now, believe you Luna and Bethel).  So what Luna and Bethel did was say, "Luna and Bethel need a little Christmas, right this very minute!"  Luna and Bethel went to eBay and found a good good seller who sells...gay and lesbian holiday ornaments to hang from your tree or from your mirror on your car or from your nipple piercings.  True story.  Look at the good good ornaments!  Click here!

Love,  Luna and Bethel!

Dear Luna & Bethel, After looking at the ornaments I was wondering if these are YMCA ornaments, perpetuating the myths of gays as the cowboy, the Indian, the construction worker, etc. Or, are the ornaments perpetuating the image of the leather-clad closet homosexual portrayed on the Sopranos? The gays I've known don't look a thing like these representations that pander to the "flaming gay men" or "tough masculine gay women". I didn't like the way gays were represented in those ornaments. It only feeds into the image the right wing conservative Christians portray to "scare" straight people. You know I love you gals but I think you are off the mark this time.

Dear Spam,
Luna and Bethel are actually glad that you said that to Luna and Bethel! Luna and Bethel went to the Gay Pride Parade in NYC one year, and a friend said, "Luna and Bethel, I'm surprised you go to that parade! Isn't that parade about stereotypes?"

Now, Gay Pride Parades aren't all about stereotypes. There are often groups of gay firemen and gay doctors and gay teachers and gay families! There are people who look like those ornaments, too. That was what bothered Luna and Bethel's friend about Gay Pride Parades.

You see, Spam, there actually are "flaming gay men" and "tough masculine gay women" in Luna and Bethel's community. Luna celebrate those people as being part of Luna and Bethel's brave community. And Luna and Bethel don't care what conservatives think of those people any more than Luna and Bethel worry about what conservatives think of Luna and Bethel!
Love,
Luna and Bethel!

Okey Dokey, I was thinking the ornaments could portray gays as teachers, doctors, lawyers, accountants, judges, construction workers, waitresses, etc. Gays are not just the cowboys, guys with feather boas, etc. Maybe we are on the same page. Sexual orientation and what people do with each other and who they wanna love is private and shouldn't be so big a deal. It is no one's business. I'm not gay so maybe I'm missing the point of the ornaments.

Dear Spam, Luna and Bethel stink that the ornaments are supposed to be about fun. Luna and Bethel's family make their political statements with their lives, but ornaments are for fun! Thanks for your comments!

Dear Luna & Bethel, I realize I probably look like the ultimate homophobe now because I don't like the ornaments. My creative thoughts of proper gay ornaments would be to portray all the famous gays from history such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Alexander the Great, Hadrian, Socrates, Richard the Lionhearted, Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Janis Joplin, oh, the list is wayyy too long. I guess the ornaments are fun but I still say the gay movement can be better served if America and the world understands that homosexuality is and has always been a part of humanity and is not represented by buffoons in feather boas. The guy who sits at the desk by you may be gay and you may not know it. Your doctor may be gay, and you may not know it. So, to be homophobic is insane because gays aren't much different than heteros (unless they are wearing ridiculous and demeaning feather boas).

Spam, Those ornaments aren't for you. They aren't made for you, you don't have to buy them Luna and Bethel have had friends who liked feather boas. Luna and Bethel personally feel that the more flamboyant members of the gay community are among the bravest. What people wear has nothing to do with the amount of respect they deserve.

Dear Luna and Bethel, Boo and Spot find this discussion very interesting. What they remember is the story Boo and Spot's servant told about her former boss. He was head of a store display department, and a flaming gay. Being young and dumb, the servant asked, "Uh, aren't you afraid people will make fun of you?" To which that adorable man replied, "Oh my darling, nobody has more fun making fun of me than I do! If I ever meet somebody who can make better fun than I can make fun, then I'll hang up the feather boa!" The servant has always thought that pretty good advice for anybody. Boo and Spot agree. Lynx, being a cat, takes himself entirely too seriously and will claw out the eyes of anybody who makes fun, and he certainly would never stoop to making fun of himself, but what does he know? He's a cat. Love, Boo and Spot
